I am maintaining the change in the cake’s size is an illusion caused by that cute octopus’s death.

The situation is perfect, though, because Ginger can make delicious stuff and New Guy can decorate it all! They’ll make an instant fortune! Maybe not, but…
I hope her new ovens don’t explode and scare New Guy off.

The cake isn’t larger–it’s just closer.
But the opening mouth of the octopus could bear some explanation…love it!
Octo-cake mouth open explanation:
“Cookie”(*) is such a wiz at decorating, his pieces are semi-animate, thus why it looks like octo-cake is looking at Ginger in Panel 2, then upon being dug into and NOMNOMNOM’d, changes to shock and horror at being devourized.
* For Reference, look into Laurell K. Hamilton’s “Anita Blake Vampire Hunter” series .. there’s a character in the later books with blue hair, and a tattoo of cookie monster on his arm.. ‘Nita can never remember his actual name (Haven), so nicknames him Cookie due to the tatt and the cookie-monster blue hair.
Side note–Panel 4: I think the savage eating freaked out “Cookie” …He’s shrinking and hiding beside/behind Ginger. lol
